FAFSA® Deadlines & Dates

For: 2018-2019

FAFSA® deadlines are extremely important to stay on top of. If you miss the deadline, you forfeit money and aid that would otherwise help you pay for college. Check the deadlines of your specific colleges of interest; every school is different. Usually, college deadlines are well before the FAFSA® deadlines, but colleges require your FAFSA® to be completed first. As for the federal deadline, although it is much later, there are limited federal funds. That’s why it’s always better to file your FAFSA® early — it’s first come, first serve!

“…There are a few federal student aid programs that have limited funds, so be sure to apply as soon as you can once the FAFSA® form is available for the year you’ll be attending school.”- FAFSA® website

FAFSA® Open Date: October 1, 2017. You should file as close to this date as possible to increase your chances of qualifying for the most aid. The sooner you apply, the more money you’ll get.

Federal FAFSA® Deadline: June 30, 2018. Make sure you check with your school to find out when you should apply. States and individual schools set their own application deadlines, which are usually earlier than the FAFSA® deadlines.

Don’t forget: submit the form early to meet the financial aid deadlines for your state and college. This guarantees you’ll get your aid package in time for the school year.
